The World Massage Festival was started by Mike Hinkle and Cindy Michaels in 2006. The American Massage Therapy Association asked members to think about ideas that would generate attention about massage to the general public. As an effort to recognize the massage therapy profession, they created “The Massage Therapy Hall of Fame”. This event drew 87 vendors and over 500 attendees with a focus on massage education inCullowhee,NC.
The goal of WMF is to provide all massage therapists an opportunity to study from leaders in the massage industry at an affordable cost. The WMF is an annual event that travels around the country. Put together by Mike and Cindy, they are supported by friends and volunteers to make this big event happen. On its 7th year, the WMF honors those who build bridges for the profession, educates the general public about massage, and educates therapists about different types of massage and have lots of fun while they’re at it!
On July 16, 2011 at the World Massage Festival a final ceremony was held at Western Carolina University; Nancy Glennon, of Lawrence, Kansas, won a scholarship from more than 70 entries to enroll in a Canine Massage Level 1 Correspondence Certificate course. Congratulations, to Nancy Glennon! Rocky Mountain School of Animal Acupressure and Massage welcomes you!
